A few weeks ago, I came across an article entitled Sunk written by Mitch Moxley in The Atavist Magazine. I have what you might call a sick fascination with films that are plagued with problems. In this case, I hit the mother load. If you don’t know the story, here’s a quick summary. Basically, a Chinese Billionaire without any experience whatsoever with filmmaking or screenwriting decided one day that he wanted to make a giant underwater epic that would rival Avatar in it’s scope. He set about trying to buy talented people to work for him, but the project quickly descended into a chaotic mess. My guest today, veteran director Jonathan Lawrence, was the third director hired to work on the project and his experience is well documented in Moxley’s article. But I was dying to talked to Jonathan about his experience on the set.

Although we do talk about Jonathan’s experience on Empires of the Deep, we also just chat about indie filmmaking in general and I had a great time. Hope you enjoy.

Here is a trailer for Empires of the Deep, which still hasn’t been released.
